There are many people—happy people, it usually appears—whose thoughts at Christmas always turn to books. The notion of a Christmas tree with no books under it is repugnant and unnatural to them.
~ Robertson Davies, The Merry Heart (1997)

Books under the Christmas tree—and at every birthday—are part of the Tate family tradition! I like to give books to friends as birthday, Christmas, and baby gifts as well. One of my favorite things to give a new baby is A Child’s Garden of Verses illustrated by Tasha Tudor.

Christmas without books is a sad thought indeed. I always have several on my wishlist. Thank you for your kind words on my blog. They were very encouraging. I love your blog name. I too am a book lover.

I need to look at my list and see what books I am getting for everyone for Christmas this year : )
One of our traditions at Christmas is to open one gift on Christmas Eve. We give each of our kids a special book. I have tried to always get hardbacks so they will become part of a life-long library. This last year was fun because I chose classics for my girls – Sense & Sensibilities and Jane Eyre.
