We began reading aloud The Swiss Family Robinson tonight as part of our study of resourcefulness.
My four boys love the fact that the shipwrecked family has four boys, and each one is identifying with the fictional boy who shares his birth order: Forrest with Ernest, Andrew with Fritz, Perry with Jack, and Thomas with Franz. Andrew wants me to substitute their names into the novel so they can “be in the story,” but I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep them straight!
Despite my high ideals for homeschooling, it’s very hard to fit leisurely read-alouds into our busy life, but it is always so rewarding when I make it a priority.
What are you reading aloud to your children this week?

Hey, we’re reading _Swiss Family_, too! Actually, Jeff is the one reading this one to us at night, and we’re in Chapter 12. We’re learning some really cool stuff from this book! He’s also reading _Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends_ aloud.
During the day, I’m reading _Carry On, Mr. Bowditch_ to the kids again (it’s probably in the top three of my Top 10 list).
Ooh, we love that one too!
