{"id":213,"date":"2005-07-27T20:35:32","date_gmt":"2005-07-27T20:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eclectic-bibliophile.com\/blog\/?p=213"},"modified":"2010-05-08T20:35:51","modified_gmt":"2010-05-08T20:35:51","slug":"breadth-and-depth-in-a-home-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/eclectic-bibliophile.com\/blog\/breadth-and-depth-in-a-home-library\/","title":{"rendered":"Breadth and Depth in a Home Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A home library should have both breadth (books on a  wide variety of topics) and depth (lots of books on a single topic).<\/p>\n<p>Whatever topic piques\u00a0my children&#8217;s\u00a0curiosity, there  is likely to be at least one book they can pull right off the shelf.\u00a0  As they develop passions for certain subjects, we try to acquire a  variety of books on those topics.\u00a0 We have pretty substantial  collections of books about whales and dolphins, trains, J. R. R.  Tolkien, the solar system, World Wars I and II, ancient Greece, ancient  Rome, inventions,\u00a0architecture, drawing, math, and animals.<\/p>\n<p>My personal collections include ABC books, multiple  editions of <em>A Child&#8217;s Garden of Verses,<\/em><em> <\/em>books written  or illustrated by Tasha Tudor, books about homeschooling, classic  literature, books about writing, books about editing, and books about  bibliophilia!\u00a0 I also collect the works of Eudora Welty, C. S. Lewis, F.  Scott Fitzgerald, Jan Karon,\u00a0Jane Austen, Elisabeth Elliot, and Edith  Shaeffer.\u00a0 (At one point I figured if I ever had a girl, I&#8217;d need to  name her Elisabeth Edith Eudora&#8230;but I ended up with four boys.)<\/p>\n<p>What are your favorite collections?<\/p>\n<p>Mary Jo<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A home library should have both breadth (books on a wide variety of topics) and depth (lots of books on a single topic).
