K. Chesterton<\/p>\n<p>How true this is!\u00a0 Sometimes I am eager to read,  particularly to learn something practical from a nonfiction book, or  perhaps to devour a new novel.\u00a0 But when I am tired, I turn to something  easy or at least familiar, for relaxation more than for learning.\u00a0 I  have to be careful, though, because when I reread an old favorite for  relaxation, I am inclined to linger longer than I really should.\u00a0 I  recently started rereading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/redirect?link_code=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;tag=mjtate-20&amp;creative=9325&amp;path=ASIN\/0147717795\/qid%3D1121549374\/sr%3D11-1\/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1\"><span style=\"color: #000066;\">Jan Karon&#8217;s Mitford series<\/span><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=mjtate-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/> as a break from several months of  nonfiction, and it was so easy just to read &#8220;one more chapter&#8221;&#8230;which  became two more chapters, and so on, before turning off the light and  going to sleep.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Jo<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a great deal of difference between an eager man who wants to read a book and a tired man who wants a book to read. ~ G.
